Multidisciplinary Conferences

Cancer is a complex disease that requires comprehensive, up to date treatment by a multidisciplinary, experienced team.  Patients who wish to have their status, previous treatment and future options reviewed, can request such a review by our multidisciplinary team of experts.

The vision of our team is:

– To provide a forum in which all the necessary specialties can review each case

– To help the patient avoid having to go back and forth between many different physicians

– To provide a mutually agreed plan for treatment for the patient that optimizes outcome

The Multidisciplinary Conference (MDCC) is held every Wednesday at the American Medical Center/American Heart Institute (AMC/AHI) with the permanent participation of doctors of the following specialties: Oncology, Surgery, Radiology, Gastroenterology and Interventional Radiology and the ad hoc participation of other specialties as required (i.e. cardiology, pulmonology, plastic surgery, orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery etc).

Patients, who wish to have their case reviewed by the Multidisciplinary Cancer Team, should contact AMC/AHI and submit the following information:

• medical history

• treatment records

• imaging studies (MRI, CT, Ultrasound, PET scan)

• medical reports

• blood tests (including tumor markers)

• other relevant investigations

They should also document specific questions they have. After our multidisciplinary team reviews the case, one of our physicians will see the patient and review the case and provide specific recommendations.
